“…medical men have been notoriously unsuccessful in their security dealings. The reason for this is that they usually have ample confidence in their own intelligence and a strong desire to make a good return on their money, without realisation that to do so successfully requires both considerable attention to the matter and something of a professional approach to security values.”
- Benjamin Graham (from the Intelligent Investor)
Today, I have posted up my foreign investments in my sidebar. And you can see from that that they are commodity heavy ETFs with some exposure to indices in India and Japan. This is because I follow what Mr Graham says. There are simply too many companies out there for me to analyse them all and because I am not a full time investor, I am happy to gain exposure through a broad indices. Every month I add to them regardless of whether they are up or down, and over time they will make me more money than a bank account. If, like me, you don’t have time to analyse a market, go with the safe option and invest in the whole index. It’s easy as putting on your trousers in the morning and leaves you time to concentrate on what you really enjoy. So while my foreign investments are pretty much running automatically, I can find time to focus on my malaysian investments. We will see in a few years who does better!
